MineXR

MineXR explores how Extended Reality (XR) technologies can transform safety training in mining engineering education. Recent accidents in European mines highlight the need for safer, more accessible ways to prepare students for real-world environments. MineXR addresses this challenge by creating immersive virtual mine scenarios that allow learners to explore, experiment, and make decisions in a fully controlled, risk-free environment.

The project develops a prototype VR mine environment that simulates key aspects of mining operations, including exploration, extraction processes, and safety procedures. Through interactive modules, students can practice safety instructions, engage with realistic geological settings, and experience mining workflows that are otherwise difficult or dangerous to reproduce in traditional training.

MineXR is built collaboratively by an interdisciplinary team of researchers from mining engineering and VR development, uniting expertise from several European universities.
